Crochet Rainbow Free Pattern

With this month of rainbows upon us, I thought it only appropriate to share my crochet rainbow pattern! I have always had it available in video form, but surprise! I added a printable version as well! You can take this pattern with you so that you can stitch while you are traveling, waiting in a waiting room, sitting at a soccer game, or any other place where you can’t be watching a video! I hope you enjoy and that you make a million happy rainbows!

Supplies

6 colors

Crochet hook to match your yarn

Yarn needle

Scissors

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain

DC = Double crochet

Sl St = Slip Stitch

SC = Single Crochet

To Begin - Color 1

Ch 4, sl st into 1st chain creating a magic circle

Round 1 (12 stitches) - Color 1

Ch 3 (this counts as a double crochet in this round and at the beginning of every round), 11 DC directly into the center of the magic circle (total of 12 including the initial chain 3), sl st into the third chain on initial chain 3. Cut yarn and pull yarn through to close circle.

Round 2 (24 stitches) - Color 2

Ch 3 (counts as DC) into one of the DC from the previous round, 1 DC into the same stitch,

2 DC into next stitch, 2 DC into each stitch around the circle for 24 total DC. Sl st into the third chain on initial chain 3. Cut yarn and pull yarn through to close circle.

Round 3 (36 stitches) - Color 3

Ch 3 (counts as DC) into one of the DC from the previous round, 1 DC into same stitch, *1 DC into next stitch, 2 DC into next stitch, repeat from * around circle for 36 total DC (2 DC, DC). Sl st into the third chain on initial chain 3. Cut yarn and pull yarn through to close circle.

Round 4 (48 stitches) - Color 4

Chain 3 (counts as DC) into one of the DC from the previous round, 1 DC into same stitch, *1 DC into next 2 stitches, 2 DC into next stitch, repeat from * around circle for 48 total DC (2 DC, DC, DC). Sl st into the third chain on initial chain 3. Cut yarn and pull yarn through to close circle.

Round 5 (60 stitches) - Color 5

Chain 3 (counts as DC) into one of the DC from the previous round, 1 DC into same stitch, *1 DC into next 3 stitches, 2 DC into next stitch, repeat from * around circle for 60 total DC (2 DC, DC, DC, DC). Sl st into the third chain on initial chain 3. Cut yarn and pull yarn through to close circle.

Round 6 (72 stitches) - Color 6

Chain 2 (counts as SC) into one of the DC from the previous round, 1 SC into same stitch, *1 SC into next 4 stitches, 2 SC into next stitch, repeat from * around circle for 72 total SC (2 SC, SC, SC, SC, SC). Sl St into the second chain on initial chain 2. If you would like, you can trim yarn here, or you can keep the yarn connected to close up the rainbow.

To Close up the Rainbow - Color 6

Fold circle in half, and insert hook into first stitch on one side of the circle. Attach yarn color 6 if not still attached. Ch 1, SC into two stitches at a time one on each side of the circle to close. Repeat all the way around. Cut yarn and pull through. Secure with a knot. Using a yarn needle, weave tail back into the rainbow.
