Halloween Craft Camp: Stiff Yarn Spiderwebs

For a new take on the spiderweb, try out this stiff yarn variety to string from a garland! These spiderwebs are actually hard to the touch, as we use fabric stiffener to make them hold their own shape! By making several, you can make a fun garland to add to your Halloween decor! Materials

• Yarn

• Fabric Stiffener or watered-down school glue. I used this fabric stiffener, but you can also use a slightly watered-down white glue. You don’t want it too thick, but you also don’t want it too watery. Just a nice happy medium. If you are using fabric stiffener, you don’t need to water it down.

• Plastic Wrap or Wax Paper

• A spiderweb outline. You can either find a design that you like by searching on the web, or you can draw your own. You don’t want it too detailed, as the yarn doesn’t shape very well into tiny details.

• A disposable cup or bowl for your glue.

• Latex or plastic gloves if you want to keep your hands clean.

How To

In this video, you will see how to create your own stiff spiderwebs! Here are a few tips:

• Your yarn doesn’t have to line up exactly with your template. I made a few where I really tried to match the template exactly, and a few where I did a more fluid free form, and I actually liked the free form webs better.

• Make sure your yarn is completely coated in glue, but don’t use too much. The excess will dry on the edges of your web.

• When you are done with your design, dab a little extra bit of glue on each intersection of yarn. This will help to make those intersections really stick together.

• Allow the web to dry for several hours or overnight.

• These are delicate little webs! Make sure to handle with care once they are dry.

You can string your completed spiderwebs from a white string to make a garland. You can also hang them from individual strings to hang around your house! Make them in black or white or all the colors of the rainbow!
